3 Rules of Cosmetic Injectables
from Dr. Jack Kolenda
Using cosmetic injectables like Botox® Cosmetic and advanced dermal fillers are really the only tried and true means of fighting the many visible signs of aging. However, if you are not taking the time to tap into some of the wisdom that came along with those lines, you may be at best wasting your money, and at worst, permanently disfiguring yourself.
Here are the ‘3 Rules of Cosmetic Injectables’ from Dr. Jack Kolenda, Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgeon, practicing in facial plastic surgery at Verso Surgery Centre:
1. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
Confirm that the physician is receiving their injectable products directly from the manufacturer, e.g.: Botox® from Allergan Pharmaceuticals. All the major pharmaceutical companies have local representatives that service physicians, and websites with a referring physician’s page.
2. KNOW YOUR PROFESSIONAL.
You should be getting your injections from a Board Certified Physician – preferably a cosmetic surgeon with a great deal of knowledge in facial anatomy, and experience in administering cosmetic injectables. A non-physician who is appropriately licensed and trained may perform the injections under the supervision of a qualified physician.
3. CONSIDER THE ENVIRONMENT.
All injections should be administered in an appropriate setting using sterile instruments. Malls and private homes are not medical environments, and may not be sanitary.
