Your Guide To Facelift in Toronto
Most people experience the unwanted effects of facial aging beginning as early as 30 years old, and they become more apparent through the 40’s and 50’s. While neuromodulators such a Botox and dermal fillers can be extremely effective rejuvenators, there comes a time when the non-surgical skin care and injectable treatments no longer improve sagging skin. At Verso Surgery in Toronto, facelift procedures are recommended for a variety of healthy patients who want to address the loose skin around their mid and lower face, turning back the clock on aging. Men and women from the GTA and beyond visit us to discuss facial cosmetic surgery.

Are you a candidate?
Toronto facelift patients share common qualifications that make them excellent candidates for the procedure. Also called rhytidectomy, the methods used to perform a facelift can be adjusted to suit each individual man or woman. However, basic principles remain the same. When you’re considering facial cosmetic surgery, your consultation with a specialized facial surgeon will allow for personalized feedback and procedure planning. For ideal candidates, the following qualities are often taken into consideration:
Good physical health:
Any cosmetic surgery requires a healthy person with a robust immune system to ensure a safe, smooth recovery. Your Toronto facelift surgeon will ask about any pre-existing medical conditions you may have. Problems with healing, bleeding, or possible infections may rule out elective surgery. Patients should understand that recovery from a facelift requires at least a couple of weeks off in most cases and lifestyle adaptations while healing.
The patient’s overall skin condition:
Ideally, skin flexibility and elasticity should be excellent. For instance, when pinched, the skin bounces back quickly. For those who are ill, malnourished, smokers or at an advanced age, the skin may not have the elasticity and general suppleness needed for ideal results.
Facial bone structure:
Facial balance and youthful qualities rely somewhat on underlying bone structure, which lifts and supports tissue. Weak orbital bones, cheekbones and chin can mean less-satisfying facelift outcomes. In cases where better structure is desired, the cosmetic surgeon may advise facial implants to help harmonize features for lasting results.
Realistic expectations for Toronto facelift outcomes:
While most patients will choose this type of procedure to make themselves “look younger,“ there are individual limitations for results that differ from person to person, and between surgeons. A facelift can rejuvenate facial muscles and fat distribution, and it can smooth the skin somewhat. Facelifts often have the effect of removing years off apparent facial age. The goal of a well-done facial surgery should be to help you be healthiest, most attractive version of yourself. Extreme tension or major changes causing a “plastic surgery” result are typically avoided. Depending on your age, your skin, your existing facial anatomy and goals, the result achieved will be unique to you. Today’s advanced facelifts are usually considered successful when the patient appears rested, happy and attractive, but very much like themselves.
Combinations of fat or dermal filler injection along with facelift surgery, are popular. If you’re on the younger end of the patient age spectrum, an injectable facelift ( liquid facelift) to restore facial volume and smooth lines could be sufficient until a later date. You may also select a mini or lower facelift rather than full, SMAS or deep plane lift. Find out if you’re a candidate for a facelift in Toronto with a personal consultation.
Over time, our facial skin loses its natural elasticity, collagen and hydration capabilities. The first signs may be fine lines around the eyes or mouth, thinning lips, hollowing cheeks or frown lines. Find out more about facelifts.

What is a mini facelift?
This less invasive option is helpful for many people who have only minor sagging concerns either in the midface or jowls.
Often, younger patients choose this route, and there are a couple of good reasons for this. The result of a mini lift can be extraordinarily satisfying but are subtle, so there is no dramatic change in appearance to signal that you’ve had cosmetic surgery. People often appear revitalized and look a little younger after the procedure, but no one can guess what he or she did unless the secret is shared.
It can also be beneficial to have less extreme treatment when younger because the client will continue to age gracefully and naturally but filled with confidence in an appearance more suited to how they feel. The results from a mini facelift in Toronto are long-lasting but there are limitations, so everyone must consider their goals and expectations when deciding which options suits them best.
What can a facelift do for you?
This elective, cosmetic procedure is technically known as a rhytidectomy. It is designed to erase 10 years or more from the apparent age of a person’s face. It removes excess skin, allows for lifting and tightening of underlying muscles to reverse the stretch and gravitational pull that has caused sagging over the years.
Skin is gently redraped to reveal a smoother appearance without tension or a pulled look. There are various techniques and procedure combinations preferred by different surgeons and a variety or possible facelift methods from which you can choose.
Full Facelift Vs. Mini Facelift
Facelifts in Toronto allow for highly customizable diversity. Many people spend time searching online for details about their chosen cosmetic surgery. You may not realize that a mini version of rhytidectomy gives facelift patients more options for facial revitalization. You may also wonder what the difference is between these procedure terms. If you’re a good candidate for the mini facelift, you may reduce your costs and recovery time. However, the less intensive procedure isn’t ideal for everyone. Your consultation will allow personal assessment and feedback. We’re comparing full and mini facelift methods so you can determine which appeals to you more.
Mini versus full facelift in Toronto
During a full, deep plane or SMAS facelift, multiple layers of facial tissue are adjusted, and more than one facial area targeted for improvement. The full version usually treats regions from the eye-level down. The surgeon uses surgical instruments inserted through three or more small incisions at the hairline and around the ears. Excess fat, redundant skin and loose muscles are altered. The skin is trimmed and redraped then sutured closed.
The recovery will usually require two weeks resting at home. Incisions will be hidden as much as possible in the hairline and natural creases. On average, people can expect to smooth away 10 years or more of apparent “age” on the face as shown by sagging and wrinkles. The results are long-lasting after a full facelift as well- typically a decade or more. Costs for more comprehensive lift procedures are between $10-$16,000 + HST in many cases.
Mini facelifts in Toronto
These less-invasive versions of facial lifting surgery target the lower face and jawline in most cases. The treatment area may focus on the area around the mouth and use short incisions in front or behind the ears. Deep nasolabial fold lines called smile lines and lower face heaviness can be addressed with the shorter scar procedure. Recovery time will usually be quicker, requiring 1 week off work.
As you may expect, the visible results achieved are more subtle as well. Smoothing of the mid and lower face is often ideal for younger clients between 30-45 who don’t show severe full-face ageing. The layers of fat and muscle under the skin may be adjusted slightly using this approach. Mini facelifts are gaining popularity as earlier intervention procedures to stave off eventual dramatic sagging for many people. The cost will be between $2- $5,000 + HST less for less invasive facelifts. ( Prices are subject to change)
Which treatment is best for you?
More is not always better. If your aesthetic concerns may be addressed through a subtler approach, your facial surgeon may recommend a mini facelift for you. The intended outcome for facial lifting is always to deliver the appropriate enhancement, at the right time, for the right patient. The result of a facelift in Toronto should be natural rejuvenation that doesn’t give away a surgical procedure, but helps you look your most attractive, youthful best.

Possible Mini lift benefits:
- Minimal anaesthesia for less extensive procedures
- Quick surgery
- Faster recovery time
- Fewer/shorter incisions
- Less apparent surgical intervention due to subtle changes
- Aging more gracefully
What is a full facelift?
The full facelift treats multiple facial areas to tighten and rejuvenate the midface and jowls. Often a brow lift and neck lift will be done in conjunction with these as well. Targeting multiple facial regions results in a dramatic reversal of wrinkles, lax skin, and overall aged appearance. Sometimes fat will be removed or repositioned to help sculpt underlying tissues that lend youthfulness to contours. The process is more invasive and complicated, requiring a longer operation and recovery but the reward can be removing decades of aging, overnight.
Benefits You Need to Know
The benefits of facelift in Toronto keep it at the top of the most-requested list for men and women. While there are numerous non-surgical methods of improving skin tone, or texture, rhytidectomy achieves long-lasting result for many people. Have you considered cosmetic surgery to help smooth away wrinkles and make your face or neck appear younger? A facial rejuvenation surgery is more customizable, and more beneficial than you may realize. Here are some of the leading benefits from an expert facelift.
Redefine your jawline and neck
One of the first regions many people see signs of ageing on the face is the jaw contour and neck area. Gravity has a role to play in the downward pull of skin and underlying facial tissue. As people age, the natural elasticity and firm tone of their skin will decrease in many cases. That leads to lax muscles and stretched skin forming “turkey neck” bands and fuller jowls under the mouth corners. The jawline may seem to disappear as skin loosens and fat collects in the lower face. Men and women may begin wearing higher necked tops or scarves to hide a neck that makes them self-conscious. A facelift in Toronto, combined with neck muscle repair can dramatically rejuvenate the lower face.
You can appear smooth, not pulled
Today’s Toronto facelift techniques are all about subtle, natural looking results. Careful placement of incisions, adjustment of underlying tissue and precise skin removal allow for a soft result that doesn’t seem tight. People who worried about obvious signs of facial plastic surgery in the past can rest-assured today’s approach doesn’t give away the procedure.
Whether mini or full facelift, surgery can reduce jowls on the lower cheeks, ( fat and skin protrusion below the mouth on either side.) Some patients maintain smooth, toned upper face and eye areas while developing troubling jowl bulges. A facelift uses short incisions around the ears to access the full jawline and cheek area, reposition or remove fat, and redrape the skin.
Remove deep creases
Filling facial wrinkles and folds is often done with injectable dermal filler. There’s a limit to how much benefit this non-surgical approach can achieve. Deep wrinkles and lines that make people self conscious are formed by a combination of skin changes, volume loss and gravity. A facelift targets all three issues to create lasting facial smoothing effects.
You can have minimal, virtually invisible scarring
A Toronto facelift surgeon with skill and experience can place incisions in your hairline and natural creases so they’re not noticeable. The result is that no one will be able to detect you’ve had a procedure unless you tell them.
Great facelift candidates usually present with one or more of the following:
- Sagging facial skin with diminished elasticity
- Visible jowls and sagging or hollowed cheeks
- Deep laugh lines (from the nostril to corner of the mouth)
- Loss of facial fat pads or muscle volume
- Downturned mouth corners or marionette lines
- A lack of definition in the jaw and neck area

Recovery Timeline (1-30 days)
You may choose a facelift in Toronto to rejuvenate the mid-face, lower face and jawline, or neck. There are numerous advanced procedure techniques popular with facial cosmetic surgeons and their patients today. Likewise, individual recovery times and details will vary too. This guide will outline some general, common considerations for most facelift patients. Your surgeon will provide you with detailed instructions to ensure you have a smooth, safe recovery. Feel free to ask questions and clarify details that relate to your individual case.
Toronto facelift recovery- week 1
During the first week, your to-do list will include rest and incision care. After a general anaesthetic, you may feel drowsy or nauseous for a couple of days. You’ll benefit from support to help with errands, household tasks, driving, child or pet care. You’ll have pain medication prescribed, and most patients take their medication for at least the first few days.
You’ll likely see your surgeon on the second day to assess incisions and ensure you’re on track. Swelling and bruising will peak around day 2 – 3. You’ll need to avoid bending over and will sleep with the head of your bed elevated to minimize swelling and discomfort. While you won’t be permitted to work out or lift anything heavy, you can walk and alternate relaxing activities with napping. Removal of your sutures may take place around the 1-week mark. You’ll have contact information to reach your surgeon or an OR nurse throughout the early days in case you have any concerns or questions.
14 days post-facelift in Toronto
Many people return to work at the two-week mark. Your surgeon will want to determine that your daily job requirements and lifestyle don’t cause unnecessary strain or jeopardize your results. You’ll note that most of the bruising and swelling have disappeared by the two-week point as well. Your incisions should be closed by 14 days in most cases.
15-30 days after surgery
By three weeks after your Toronto facelift you’ll be confident that you don’t show obvious signs of surgery. Your results will be taking shape, and you can celebrate a revitalized appearance already. You’ll still see some minor swelling in places, pink incisions, and may have another 3 weeks of strenuous activity restriction. Your surgeon will advise you to protect your scars from the sun.
After the first month
In the second and third month after a facelift, people generally feel completely healed and will no longer have restrictions placed on their workouts or heavy lifting. Residual sensations related to nerve regeneration are considered normal. This can include tingling, numbness or intermittent buzzing. Closer to 6 months post-procedure, nerves have healed, and facial tissue has normal sensation. Following instructions for rest, medication and excellent nutrition can help people heal faster and enjoy their recovery process.
Private Medical Financing Options
We feel that patients should feel relaxed, never rushed and be well-informed when they leave a consultation with us. Please feel free to bring pictures or a list of questions with you. Dr. Kolenda will describe the procedure in detail and let you know what your, specific process and results could entail. What is the recovery process like?
After undergoing a facelift in Toronto at the Verso Surgery centre, patients receive their initial visit from Dr. Kolenda as soon as they recover in their suite, before they return home. He’ll remind you about any instructions and what to expect in the first hours and days while you heal. The next time we see you will be within the first two days for a bandage removal. You’ll be allowed to shower carefully, and we’ll tell you how to wash around incisions for your comfort and safety.
All surgeries are unique, but generally, the next visit with us is scheduled within 7 days post-op. Patients are always free to call and book any necessary appointments with Dr. Kolenda and a Registered Nurse if there are medical concerns or questions between regular follow-ups. We also provide an on-call number for a registered OR nurse after hours, so there is always a friendly expert at your fingertips to ease your mind.
Activity restrictions after a facelift
Our patients report very little pain after a facelift; however, sensations of tightness and visible swelling or bruising are expected. The first week or two, the appearance of your face may look concerning, though you will likely feel great. That is because the facial skin is incredibly vascular, prone to inflammation and bruising. Most of these effects will be resolved by the 14-day mark, and you’ll start looking like your younger, vibrant self.
Incisions also close by roughly two weeks, and you’ll be given instructions for keeping them protected and healing beautifully. Our experienced staff offers long-term scar care tips to keep your results looking optimal. We will provide you with a few activity restrictions which are temporary and aimed at reducing swelling, bleeding or infection risks. Most patients are advised to take two weeks off work, and if they have small children or pets at home, asking for extra help will be a good idea in the first weeks. Avoiding the gym and other aerobic activity is necessary for a few weeks only, and you’ll need to stay out of pools, baths or hot tubs for a short while.

Toronto rhinoplasty – what are the variations?
Many people who have breathing issues such as snoring or nostril occlusion are told that they have a deviated septum. When internal structures of the nose including bone and cartilage are not centred or positioned correctly, a person’s nose will not function ideally and may appear crooked or imbalanced. The surgical method developed to correct deviated septum specifically is called a septoplasty. Those who are born with these structural anomalies or who damage the nose through injury are often candidates. A septoplasty aims to improve nasal function, rather than to change the appearance of the nose.
Types of rhinoplasty
Planning rhinoplasty in Toronto can look a little different for everyone. That’s because this complex, specialized cosmetic surgery varies significantly. Rhinoplasty can be “open” or “closed.” You may have a cosmetic nose job to refine the tip or smooth the bridge. You might undergo a revision or repair of nasal injury. Some people choose septoplasty to improve their breathing with no visible change at all. Here’s a closer look at some popular Toronto rhinoplasty types:
The open method is often appropriate to make significant changes. It involves incisions within the nostrils and one across the columella, at the base of the nose and upper lip. This allows the surgeon a clear view of nasal anatomy to perform significant work.
Rhinoplasty in Toronto using the closed approach is popular for minor changes and allows a faster healing time with no visible scars. Incisions made entirely within the nostrils enable the surgeon to reshape bone and cartilage.
The central bone and cartilage between nasal passages form the septum. When a septum bends or twists in the middle, the S-shape or C-shape deviation can block airflow. Many people seek surgical correction due to snoring or other symptoms.
A secondary or revision rhinoplasty in Toronto is designed to correct problems after a previous nose job, or an issue that wasn’t thoroughly addressed with the first procedure. Some revisions are relatively easy, while others are incredibly challenging. Factors such as tough scar tissue and reduced blood supply in the nose mean that highly experienced facial surgeons are required for optimal outcomes.
Similar to revision work, reconstruction for the nose is complex and may require the addition of grafts or removal of scar tissue. A severe type of nose injury is called saddle deformity. The bridge and septum break down and collapse due to severe facial trauma or chronic nasal drug use. Rigorous reconstruction work may require donor rib tissue to rebuild a bridge and septum.
This exciting, new, non-surgical approach to reshape noses is increasing in popularity. Toronto rhinoplasty patients may choose this temporary alternative before proceeding with surgical enhancement. Dermal fillers can improve bridge symmetry, subtly reshape the tip, help to fill depressions, and camouflage a bump. There are limitations, including size reduction. The results last roughly 9 – 12 months and provide instant improvements with no downtime.
