A Rhinoplasty procedure is a surgery that permanently changes the shape, size and structure of your nose. This type of surgery is commonly known as a “nose job” and is a highly popular procedure for those looking to modify their nose. The usual motivation for this surgery may be to ultimately change the appearance of the nose for cosmetic purposes or to improve breathing.
Our various types of Rhinoplasty surgery procedures can achieve the most optimal results whether it be a permanent or temporary solution. When it comes to facial surgery, every patient has their own unique characteristics.
Whether it be that you’d simply like aesthetic changes made to your nose or if you’re interested in restructuring the shape of your nose due to a previous incident or inherit hereditary features that you’re uncomfortable with.
Rhinoplasty surgery is a complex procedure that is specifically tailored to your unique nose. We offer many types of Rhinoplasty surgery procedures to ensure we can accommodate your surgical needs. At Rhinoplasty Toronto our surgeries can be “open” or “closed”.
During your consultation with the doctor you will be informed of the different factors according to your specific surgery. Here’s a closer look at the types of surgery procedures that we offer at Rhinoplasty Toronto.
We also offer our digital imaging service which is a computer imaging technology that will allow us to see what the results will look like post-surgery.
Please note that your Rhinoplasty surgery will be customized by our surgeon in order to ensure that you’re receiving the right kind of treatment for your case. If you’re interested in learning more about the types of Rhinoplasty surgeries that we offer please give us a Call: (905) 849-7560 and one of our specialists would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
A Revision Rhinoplasty is commonly performed to correct problems from a previous nose job, nose surgery, or an issue that wasn’t addressed within the first procedures. These types of revision surgeries can vary on a case by case basis.
As some revisions may be relatively easy, some cases can be more complex. Some factors may come into consideration such as tough scar tissue and reduced blood supply. Having a highly experienced board certified facial plastic surgeon is required for optimal results.
Reconstruction nose surgery is similar to revision work but this type of procedure is performed inside of the nose. This type of surgery is based on your unique condition and can be a complex procedure since it may require additional grafts or removal of scar tissue that has formed. This facial surgery is commonly performed to help fix a severe type of nose injury called saddle deformity. The bridge and septum break down and collapse due to severe facial trauma or chronic nasal drug use.
If rigorous reconstruction work is needed inside the nose you may require donor rib tissue for facial plastic surgery changes made inside to rebuild a bridge and septum.
Injection Rhinoplasty in Toronto is a very new and exciting non-surgical approach to cosmetic nose job. This popular option allows Toronto Rhinoplasty patients to choose a temporary alternative to surgery. Dermal fillers are used to improve the overall appearance of your nose to improve bridge symmetry, reshape the tip, camouflage a bump or to fill in depression areas.
Injection nose jobs will roughly last around 9-12 months and provide an instant improvement with no downtime.
Rhinoplasty surgery is a diverse procedure that allows patients to improve the appearance of their nose and can also make adjustments to health conditions such as breathing problems and straightening the bridge of the nose.
Whether this type of facial surgery is right for you depends on a number of factors including cosmetic and structural issues that you’re looking to change, your budget, and other personal factors.
Being a candidate for a Rhinoplasty surgery is a one of a kind process that will be determined by our highly experienced board certified surgeon. We are dedicated to providing the best customer service and patient care and are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding our facial surgery services.
When it comes to Rhinoplasty procedures there are two primary approaches, open and closed surgery. One of the main differences between an open and closed surgery are:
Open Surgery- A small incision is made on the underside of the nose which is also known as the columella.
Closed Surgery- All of the incisions are located on the inside of the nose.
Cartilage grafts, nasal-bone osteotomies (removal of parts of the bone), dorsal-hump removal, and nasal tip alterations can all be performed with either an open or closed rhinoplasty in Toronto.
Our Rhinoplasty services are offered by our board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kolenda. Our specialists at Verso Surgery Centre will guide you through every step of your surgical process. You can expect an experience tailored specifically to your needs to ensure that you are receiving the right treatment for your case.
During your initial consultation the surgeon will be going through the different types of Rhinoplasty procedures to find the best one suited to you for optimal results.
Our latest digital imaging technology is also a service that is available if you’re interested in seeing what your results will look like post-surgery. This is a great tool to determine the look of the results after the surgery.
We offer free Rhinoplasty consultations to our patients. The best way to learn about our unique types of Rhinoplasty surgeries is to meet with our board certified surgeon to go over the specifics of your surgery. During your complimentary consultation you can expect to go over the aesthetic goals of your surgery, you’ll have an assessment based on your face and nose, explore the type of surgery that we offer for optimal results and go over the details of the pre and post-surgery requirements from your procedure.
During your consultation with the surgeon we highly recommend for you to bring a list of questions that you may have for the surgeon and “wish pictures” for reference to what you’re looking for. This allows the surgeon to visualize your results based on the photos you’ve provided.
Once you’ve gone through the initial assessment, Dr. Kolenda will develop the appropriate surgical plan for you and will share the details with you. These details will include the type of nose job surgery that is required for you and the cost of your surgery.
To properly prepare yourself before your Rhinoplasty surgery, you will need to ensure to follow all pre-surgical instructions from your surgeon. Here are a few helpful tips that we recommend to do before your surgery date:
After your Rhinoplasty surgery it is normal to experience a dry nose and mouths for a couple of weeks after the surgery. You will be mouth-breathing at first so we always recommend drinking plenty of water to ensure you’re staying hydrated and to soothe those effects. If you’re finding that you’re still experiencing dry nose and mouth we would suggest having candies to suck on and having a humidifier to help you stay comfortable.
Usually the recovery period can last up to a few weeks to fully heal, in this case we do suggest pausing your gym membership following the surgery as it will be weeks before you are cleared to workout and continue playing sports.
Once the nose job surgery is complete and you’re cleared to go home you will need a friend or family member to drive you back home from the surgical centre. You can expect a few followup appointments and should also have someone to drive you to those as well.
If you have any questions regarding specific post-surgical symptoms we recommend asking your surgeon during the initial consultation or anytime during your followup appointments.
While the recovery time can vary for all patients and also which type of procedure they have, we have created a general guideline that you can refer to. While this is a general guideline we do recommend following your surgeon’s post-operative plan as your experience could be different than others.
Most patients are able to return home the same day after their rhinoplasty surgery as long as the surgeon has cleared you. You may feel slightly nauseous or dizzy when you first wake up after the surgery as the general anesthesia is wearing off. You may experience minimal pain but expect stuffiness and pressure as inflammation sets in.
Another common effect after your surgery is that there will be some minor oozing from the nostrils. You will have gauze or cotton placed there and your surgeon will provide you with instructions on how to change it properly.
In order to promote a healthy recovery you will need to keep your head up, rest and take your prescription medication as directed by your surgeon. After your nose job surgery you will have a follow-up appointment around a day or two later in order to meet with your surgeon and ensure everything is going as planned.
This appointment is also a great time to ask any questions or concerns you may have. This will allow your surgeon to address those concerns in person rather than over the phone.
It’s a normal occurrence to experience swelling and facial pressure during the first two to three days after your Rhinoplasty surgery. Most people do experience bruising under their eyes during those first few days. It’s crucial that you follow your surgeon’s instructions during this time for nasal irrigation, application of ointment, and cold compresses on your cheeks if that’s needed.
It’s important not to touch or place anything on your nose and also you mustn’t put anything in your nostrils if it is not directed by your surgeon. During this recovery period we also recommend refraining from lifting anything over 5 pounds or performing any activities that would increase your blood pressure. Any light walks to stay active are allowed unless your surgeon has told you otherwise.
After the first week of your recovery you will have another appointment to have your splint and any non-dissolvable sutures taken out. During this appointment most of our patients have a reveal of their new nose and will feel much more comfortable at this point. Please note that you may still experience some bruising and swelling as you’re still in the healing process.
At this point you may return to your daily activities while following the surgeons post-surgical instructions.
You can normally expect your swelling and bruising to appear gone but it’s important to remember that your nose is still in the healing phase and you should still take proper care during this time. Your nasal tissue is still very sensitive, especially the tip of the nose that will hold residual swelling for a few months.
If needed you will be permitted to resume most activities like wearing your prescription glasses or be allowed to workout after one month. As the healing process can be different for every patient, you’ll most likely need to wait nearly a year to see subtle definition and refined details in your nose.
Although the swelling and bruising are gone, you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle for optimal results.

Your results post-operation will vary with the type of nose job surgery that you had. Typically it’s normal to experience some bruising and swelling the first few days and can be different for all of our patients. Once you’ve past day two to three you should expect the healing to begin shortly after.
After your surgery most patients typically have a soft breathing tube inserted inside of the nostril in order to help you breathe freely while the nasal passage is swollen. While this can be uncomfortable and hard to adjust to at first, it’s important to leave it be until your surgeon removes it.
After your surgery you will be given all of the postoperative requirements that you must follow such as how to eat, positioning yourself to be more comfortable during the day, also during your sleep and which daily activities are allowed during your healing process.
We always recommend creating a list of questions prior to your surgery in order for the doctor to properly answer them and give you clarity on your questions.
Once your surgery is done you will see the incisions are located inside the nasal passages or just at the base of the columella, which means they will heal to be invisible or barely perceptible to the naked eye. Incisions are usually closed within two weeks, and you’ll receive instructions regarding protection from the risk of infection or scarring.
Additionally, we recommend our patients to follow all of the post-surgical instructions that we’re given by their surgeon. Sticking closely to these pointers will help you on your journey to recovery as soon as possible!
Although Rhinoplasty surgeries are a very safe procedure, there are common side effects that you can expect after the surgery. While you may experience swelling, bruising and possibly some slight bleeding after the surgery it is a completely normal occurrence.
If you have any concerns or questions during your post-surgical recovery period we highly recommend reaching out to your facial surgeon in order to receive the best possible advice. Following our guidelines and post-operative instructions will allow for a smooth recovery and reveal your beautiful results.
