Neck Liposuction

Liposuction means fat- suction and is designed to remove fat from various areas of the body.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction means fat- suction and is designed to remove fat from various areas of the body. When it comes to the neck, many people are troubled by the stubborn fat that accumulates there because it is very resistant to diet and exercise and can negatively affect your appearance.

Contrary to some information you may find online, liposuction is considered to be surgery, and it is technically “invasive,” however it is less invasive and much less likely to leave visible scarring than many other procedures. That’s because liposuction is performed with a blunt-tipped needle or cannula which only requires a tiny hole to enter and do the work. For an area as small as the neck and submental ( under chin) location, the facial cosmetic surgeon needs to make only one small incision and can reach all areas from there.

How does neck liposuction work?

Patients are typically asleep under general anaesthesia or IV sedation with local anaesthetic, depending on the procedure. The liposuction process can be carried out various ways with different tools, medications and electronic or ultrasound assistance. Typically, neck and chin areas to be treated are infused with a mixture of fluid called tumescent fluid which contains a numbing agent and a medication to minimize bleeding.

This fluid and the physical movement of the liposuction tool breaks apart fat pockets and allows them to be sucked out of the body. Dr. Kolenda performs liposuction with careful artistry, ensuring even, meticulous subcutaneous fat removal so that a smooth, defined result is achieved. Depending on the goals of the procedure or what other cosmetic surgeries may be planned at the same time, the surgeon will remove fat and contour the area then close the small opening.

Are you troubled by your neck or a double chin that you can’t seem to get rid of no matter what you do? Perhaps you’ve heard about a neck lift procedure and neck liposuction in Toronto, and you wonder what the difference is between the two. Both of these are cosmetic procedures offered at Verso Surgery centre. Read on to learn more.

Find out about liposuction

Creating a defined jawline

Long-acting anaesthetic in the tissue keeps patients comfortable for a long time after surgery and pain medication is provided if needed for a few days after. At the Verso Surgery centre in Toronto, neck liposuction usually aims to create a defined jawline, create a sharper neck/chin angle and remove a double chin. This can be accomplished through removing subcutaneous fat along the jaw, and under the chin. If bands of fat or creases exist on the neck, these can be smoothed away as well.

Who is an ideal Toronto neck liposuction patient?

Younger clients in their 30’s and 40’s will often have issues with neck fat that they wish to improve, but not the sagging excess skin which requires surgical tightening. Though clients in their 20’s may also experience a poorly defined neck and jaw due to subcutaneous fat deposits and a double chin, the typical patient who seeks neck liposuction is male or female, middle-aged and has strong neck skin tone.

What will the recovery be like after neck liposuction in Toronto?

All of our cosmetic patients wake from surgery in our comfortable recovery suite with a nurse by your side. Dr. Kolenda will see you and speak with you; then you are free to go home accompanied by a friend or family member. There will be long-acting anaesthetic keeping your neck area numb and comfortable for many hours, but you’ll also be provided with pain medication if needed, and tips to soothe the area. We are pleased to provide all of our patients with the direct contact number for a registered OR nurse in case there are questions or concerns after hours.

Downtime after neck liposuction

Once relaxing at home, you may participate in many of your usual activities as your neck will feel only mildly sore and swollen. Non-strenuous pursuits such as reading, walking, watching TV and listening to music are recommended.

You will need to temporarily skip the gym and all other aerobic exercise because increased blood pressure will mean increasing swelling and discomfort, but luckily, the downtime will be minimal after your neck rejuvenation. As well, prop up the head of the bed or use multiple pillows to keep your head and shoulders elevated when sleeping for the first two weeks.

When can I return to work?

Most Toronto neck liposuction patients can return to work in 1-2 weeks after their surgery; however, we’ll likely ask that you wear a soft, compression garment over the head to help reduce swelling in the neck and some people choose to stay near home until they are free to leave it off around one week.

Most swelling or bruising will resolve by the two-week mark, and you’ll already see the new, refined contours revealing themselves. We’ll have you back for a check-up at one week, then after a couple of months and at 6 months, or at your convenience.

People considering cosmetic surgery should be in good general health with no underlying illness that would preclude them from surgery or interfere with healing. They should not smoke, and patients who do smoke are asked to stop at least two weeks before and after in order to minimize risks and see the most optimal results.

The effects which can be achieved through removal of fat deposits on the check and submental area are subtle but can make a significant impact on a person’s self-esteem. While it is often performed alone, removal of neck fat is often added to other facial procedures; therefore good candidates can also include facelift patients, those receiving chin augmentation and neck lift patients.

The impact made on one’s appearance with neck liposuction is natural yet powerfully anti-aging. A slimmer, refined jawline and neck transforms the whole face.
