What Does a Facelift in Toronto Involve?
LEARN MORE ABOUT FACELIFT PROCEDURES
Thinking about a facelift in Toronto? You’re in good company! Men and women of all ages are requesting this age-eraser more than ever. The newest, innovative techniques mean your facial surgeon can deliver entirely natural-looking and customized improvements. If you’ve ever wondered what this popular procedure involves, we’ve highlighted the 7 general steps below.
1. Anaesthesia
The day of your facelift in Toronto, you’ll be put gently to sleep with general anaestesia. For shorter procedures, it’s possible to combine local anaesthetic and IV sedation. Your surgeon will let you know what to expect.
2. Facelift Incisions
Traditional, full facelift incisions will extend from the temples behind the hairline, down around the ears, and back into the hairline. There are variations- all intended to be well-hidden- which are shorter for mini facelifts.
3. Repositioning and Tightening
Your Toronto facelift surgeon will access underlying tissue layers and reposition them as needed. An SMAS or deep plane facelift often involve tightening muscles, fascia and adjusting fat pads to create long-lasting facial rejuvenation.
Over time, our facial skin loses its natural elasticity, collagen and hydration capabilities. The first signs may be fine lines around the eyes or mouth, thinning lips, hollowing cheeks or frown lines. Find out more about facelifts.
4. Skin Excision
Great care is taken to remove skin laxity that leads to sagging, but not to over tighten or “pull” Any area. The skin edges are closed with the surface appearing soft and natural. Fine sutures or staples can be placed, or glue that brings together delicate, thin closure lines.
5. Drains and Dressings
You’ll have sterile, medical tapes and gauze dressings placed over your incisions to protect them. In some cases, and depending on the type of facelift in Toronto, small, soft drains will exit the incision sites to reduce any fluid build up inside. Drains are usually removed along with bandages just 1-2 days after surgery. Stitches will often come out around one week later during a follow-up appointment.
6. Recovery at Home
You’ll likely be advised to take a couple of weeks off work and your usual activity. The majority of visible swelling or bruising resolves in that time. You’ll see dramatic, impressive improvements in the first 2-3 weeks after a facelift in Toronto. The incisions will be closed and healed by week 3 in most cases. After that, you’ll need a little patience to see your scars fade and residual swelling disappear.
7. Enjoy your new look
In general, patients celebrate final results around 6 months after surgery. You’ll have a few follow up appointments booked with your facial surgeon, and you’ll be welcome to contact them with any questions or concerns in the meantime. Most people appear “normal” and enjoy their improvements long before the 6 month mark, closer to one month out; however, refined details take shape and scars mature throughout the first year.
